He generally uses the basic Lego kits geared for 3 yr olds....blocks, little people..etc and this kit offered just the right advancement in complexity for him. He had no problem assembling the vehicles from the Lego supplied instruction booklet but he never saw some of the pieces used in this kit before and took a second to figure them out. Clearly this is a small Lego kit among all the current offerings but it's good starter set for a young child.
