(Idaho) - See all my reviews = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: This review is from: LEGO Dino Defense HQ 5887 (Toy) When I was first assigned to Dino Defense HQ, I knew I'd be in for a long tour of duty. I'd seen it all in the past, adventuring with Clutch Powers, pirating on the Imperial Flagship chasing Captain Brickbeard, even some time in the "Imperial Navy," but that was a long time ago. Now I'm at Dino Defense HQ, with a vaguely defined mission to protect the base at all costs against the dinosaur horde. The tools at my disposal? A helicopter, an all-terrain vehicle with a tranquilizer gun, and a whole lotta guts. When I was asked to come defend Dino HQ, I was told the builders spared no expense. The people who built this place to contain the T-Rex must have thought a gate about half her height would do, but I'm here to tell you, she needs a bigger cage. This cage might keep Coelophysis contained, but not Raptor. You can tell when you look at the Raptor, she's working things out, trying to figure a way to escape.Good thing we have a helicopter. When trying to keep these beasts... This time the purchase was not for me but for my little one. That being said and him being six, for this one I was the one that had to do the majority of the building. Not that I'm complaining as building the sets is almost more fun for me than actually playing with them. The Dino line is one of the new Lego series for 2012 and they launched with this set at the 100$ price point. I am almost a little torn on what rating to give this one and I will explain why.The good; my little guy almost exploded when he opened this. Lego and Dinosaurs, how could this NOT be cool. The unique pieces are great, and this set comes with a Giant T-Rex and 2 smaller dinosaurs (the 2 bigger dinosaurs have building pegs on them so that mini figures can "ride" them, my son loved that part). They also introduce some great weapons and mini figures. The set itself is a blast to play with, it has working gates, a crane and comes with a helicopter and an off road... Stars Wars, City, Ninja, Earth Defense and now Dino Defense. It is very, very disappointing to see how Lego priced this particular item .... there is no way in a million years this is a $99 set. One could stretch it as half the price ($49.99) but $99? Lego is beginning to rip off it's biggest fans and it is a very, very sad day when that happens. Junior is 6 years old, coming onto 7. He will ask for many more sets in the future and no doubt, get them. However, each over-priced item will leave a bad taste in the mouth and draw more criticism from devotees. Shame on you Lego! |
