My boyfriend and I decided on this set because it was the best of all worlds: a junk-style ship that converts into an airship, with ninjas! Whether or not you follow the ninjago story, if you're into LEGO and fantasy themes, I highly recommend this set.The design of the ship is very well done - it's surprisingly sturdy and easy to build despite some features that I expected would have been a bit more complicated. A lever is designed to open the sails/wings when it is pulled down. The tail of the ship also turns downwards to convert into engines so that the ship becomes an airship. It's also equipped with a canon that fires LEGO cylinders and hidden compartments for daggers. The sails seem to be of a paper cloth material- sturdy enough but it will probably not survive heavy abuse from younger, less careful builders. Once we got it together, we could not so much as touch it without pieces falling off -- and not just bits of ornamentation. Pieces of the structure fell apart repeatedly.And this was not a matter of builders unfamiliar with Lego -- we are all sufficiently experienced and careful to do the job properly. I have to say that the Lego designers' reach clearly exceeded their grasp on this one. Don't waste your time or money -- unless perhaps you want to assemble this with a glue gun nearby. That's the only way I can imagine my son will ever be able to play with this. |
