I only gave this four instead of five stars because of its size, as I was expecting a traditional-sized backpack, however with my son being eight years old, and not having the necessity of toting large books back and forth to and from school yet, this is the perfect size for him. The shoulder straps are well-padded. The larger compartment is perfect for bringing home his binder, folders, and getting his tennis shoes to and from school for gym. The front pocket easily accommodates his pencil box and and any other smaller needed daily supplies. It serves it's purpose perfectly.
